In this workshop we will review Stewardship theory, which represents an alternative to Agency theory (Davis, Schoorman & Donaldson, 1997).  Agency theory is based on the economic assumptions about subordinates as maximizing individual utility, opportunistic and self-serving.  Alternately, Stewardship theory depicts subordinates as more collectivist, pro-organizational and trustworthy.  We will discuss the requirements and implications of moving an organization’s governance to a more stewardship based approach.
